Amazonas

Amazonas is a vast state in the northwest of Brazil, almost entirely covered by the Amazon rainforest. The capital, Manaus, is a river port with landmarks dating back to the rubber boom of the late 19th century, including the Teatro Amazonas, a grand opera house. The city marks the “Meeting of Waters,” where the blackwater Rio Negro and the sandy-colored Rio Solimões come together to form the Amazon River.
