Rio Grande do Norte

Natal is the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the northeastern region of Brazil. It is known for its extensive coastal sand dunes and the Star-shaped Fort of the Magi (Forte dos Reis Magos), a Portuguese fortress from the 16th century located at the mouth of the Potengi River.

To the north of the river, Genipabu is an area of enormous dunes with a freshwater lagoon. The Via Costeira highway connects a 15 km stretch of beaches to the south of the fortress.
