The Favela
Talking a little about
Today the favela will host you for 24 hours (no need to check out of the hotel). The favela experience will last a full day, so it will start around 10 in the morning and end the next morning. During the day, you will visit Rocinha’s market, the school where you will spend 2 hours engaging in activities with the children, take a walk inside the favela to reach the restaurant where you will have lunch. After lunch, you will visit another favela called Vidigal, where you will take a photo from the top (Mirante da Arvão). You will sleep as a guest in a family’s home or in a hotel within the favela (depending on availability).

The word “favela” has an uncertain origin but is often associated with the Favela Morro da Providência, one of the first favelas in the city. It was named after a shrub called “favela” that grew in the area.
