Rehearsals
Talking a little about
Enjoy all the energy of the carnival in an exciting and unique night. We offer live samba music with beautiful samba dancers in a special group school rehearsal. Samba schools start practicing in advance for Carnival. They begin to compose the songs, practice the routines, create the costumes and build the floats. Some of the big schools open their doors for visitors to watch a carnival rehearsal. NB: only from August to February (Saturday evening)

Curiosities
Each samba school selects a samba-enredo (theme song) for their parade, and rehearsals focus on the presentation of this theme. The composers of the samba-enredo are usually anonymous until the song’s release, creating high anticipation and speculation about the authors.
Rehearsals often take place in the school’s “quadra,” which is a dedicated space for community events and training of the school’s members. These quadras are often adorned with the school’s colors and symbols, creating an environment of great pride and belonging.
The percussion section (“bateria”) of a samba school is a vital part of the parade, and rehearsals for the bateria are particularly lively. Rhythmists rehearse tirelessly to achieve rhythmic perfection, and the bateria leaders are highly respected figures within the school.
In addition to rehearsals at the quadra, samba schools also conduct technical rehearsals at the Sambadrome, the venue for the official parade. This allows school members to familiarize themselves with the route and conditions of the venue, ensuring a smoother parade on Carnival day.
Many of the samba school rehearsals are open to the public, becoming important social and cultural events in the communities. Rehearsals often attract local residents, tourists, and Carnival enthusiasts, providing a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in Rio de Janeiro’s culture.
